“Arms supplies to Ukraine are dangerous” Putin warns

Increased armament supply to Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz might lead to further destabilisation.

Putin made his remarks during a three-way phone discussion with French and German leaders on Saturday, during which he warned against future Western arms exports to Ukraine and blamed the conflict’s disruption of world food supplies on Western sanctions, according to the Kremlin.

Putin told Macron and Scholz that continuing to supply guns to Ukraine was “dangerous,” and he warned them of the “risks of further destabilisation of the situation and worsening of the humanitarian disaster,” according to the Kremlin.

According to the German chancellor’s spokesperson, during the 80-minute call, Macron and Scholz advocated an immediate cease-fire in Ukraine and the evacuation of Russian soldiers from the country.

According to the spokeswoman, European leaders also urged Putin to engage in serious and direct talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to cease the fighting.

According to a Kremlin summary of the three-way call, Putin expressed “the Russian side’s readiness to the resumption of communication,” but did not mention the idea of direct meetings between Putin and Zelenskyy.
