This is what you should know about King Charles III. He is the oldest person to hold the position and has inherited immense wealth of over $28 billion in assets.

On September 8, 2022, King Charles III, the 62nd monarch to rule the United Kingdom in the past 1,200 years, took the throne in the wake of the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Two days later, at a ceremony held at St. James’s Palace close to Buckingham Palace, the longest-serving heir apparent in British history was formally proclaimed king, making him the oldest person to hold the position.

What should we know about him?

Early life

Prince Charles Philip Arthur George was the first child born to Princess Elizabeth and Prince Philip on November 14, 1948, at Buckingham Palace.

He was 3 years old when his mother ascended to the throne on February 6, 1952, making him the heir apparent.

Charles is the first heir to receive an education from a public institution rather than a private tutor, according to Royal.uk, the official website of the British royal family.

He attended a number of institutions, including two terms in Melbourne as an exchange student and a private boarding school in Scotland.

Charles attended Trinity College at Cambridge University from 1967 to 1970. He pursued studies in anthropology, history, and archaeology. In 1969, at the age of 20, he received the title of Prince of Wales.

Charles served in the Royal Navy from 1971 to 1976, flying helicopters and following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather, and great-grandfathers.

He first trained as a pilot for the Royal Air Force and later held the position of commander of the minesweeper HMS Bronington.

Married life

In 1980, when Lady Diana Spencer was 19 and Charles was 31, they started dating. Their engagement became public in February 1981, sparking a media frenzy over their romance. When asked if they were in love during a TV interview, Diana said, “Of course,” and Charles retorted, “Whatever ‘in love means.”

On July 29, 1981, they were wed at St. Paul’s Cathedral in front of a record-breaking 750 million TV viewers worldwide. In Great Britain, the day was proclaimed a national holiday. Diana became the first English woman to marry a monarchy heir in 1660.

Prince William, the first son of the couple, was born on June 21, 1982, and Prince Harry was born on September 15, 1984. Diana and Charles separated in 1996. Tragically, Diana was killed in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997.

Later, Charles and Parker Bowles announced their engagement in 2004 and got married the following year.

King’s wealth

Following the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, the newly crowned King Charles III inherited the nearly $28 billion in assets that belonged to the Crown Estate. That also includes; Buckingham Palace, the Duchy of Lancaster, the Duchy of Cornwall, Kensington Palace, and the Crown Estate Scotland, giving him an estimated net worth of $600 million.

Sports

From his early years until 1992, Charles played polo frequently. Up until 2005, he kept performing on the side, including for charitable causes. He occasionally suffered injuries when he fell off horses, and in 1990, he had two operations to repair fractures in his right arm.

Before fox hunting was outlawed in the UK in 2005, Charles also frequently engaged in the activity.

Charles supports Burnley Football Club as well.

Social work

Charles has promoted and been an advocate for sustainability for more than 50 years. The Prince of Wales’ personal website states that since “deforestation, and ocean pollution.

The Prince has promoted sustainability to ensure that the natural assets upon which we all depend, among other things soil, water, forests, a stable climate, and fish stocks endure for future generations.”
